Novatti BillPay team visits universities to promote our bill payments offering

February marks the start of a new university year and the return of international students to Australia.

With more than 600,000 international students studying in Australia last year and many new students expected to arrive in 2023, the ChinaPayments and Novatti BillPay teams have been busy getting out and about at university orientation events, or O-Weeks, to promote our ChinaPayments and Novatti BillPay offerings.

Launched in 2017, ChinaPayments has been providing international students, migrants and overseas residents a simple and secure way to pay their BPAY® bills using Chinese payment methods such as UnionPay, WeChat Pay and Alipay. 

Since then, we have enjoyed a strong uptake amongst Chinese users, allowing us to take the next step in scaling our solution to the wider Asia-Pacific region. Novatti BillPay extends our current BPAY bill payments service to provide a similar solution to international students from Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, Indonesia and Thailand.

Across four campuses and O-Week events in Sydney and Melbourne, we engaged with more than 200 international students and signed them up to learn more about Novatti BillPay. Through our online demonstrations, we were able to convey Novatti BillPay’s ease of use and ability to speed up international money transfers for bill payments.

Besides introducing our platform, we also took this opportunity to understand their challenges when it comes to paying hefty bills such as tuition fees, rent and utility bills. Conversations were centred around BPAY education and learning about the various digital wallets that the students used every day in their home country. 

Following O-Week, the Novatti BillPay team is continuing conversations with student clubs representatives such as the Malaysian, Indonesian and Filipino student clubs to collaborate with them, extending our presence to the international students market.
