Overview

Novatti has partnered with Dosh New Zealand to help them launch a branded prepaid card to complement their digital wallet solution for New Zealand users.

Dosh New Zealand is a fintech startup on a mission to provide people in New Zealand with greater financial freedom, access and control of their money.

Leveraging Novatti's end-to-end program management and card issuing solution, Dosh was able to launch a card-linked digital wallet with instant payments, becoming the first digital wallet in New Zealand.

Challenge

The Dosh team, led by co-founders Shane Marsh and James McEniery, wanted to challenge the traditional payment methods and environment in which New Zealand operated.

Faced with significant barriers to entry but a growing appetite from existing customers, Dosh looked to partner with other fintech to bring to life a digital wallet solution that would enable real-time payments.

Real-time payments were one of the key problems Dosh looked to address. Unlike Australia, which has New Payments Platform (NPP), New Zealand does not currently have real-time payments. Today in New Zealand, if someone owes you money you cannot be paid and use that money until it is cleared by the bank. This clearance takes between one hour and two days. In addition, you would have to go through the hassle of setting up other users as online banking payees.

Approach

Novatti was brought on as the Visa Program Manager to enable Dosh New Zealand to launch a white-label physical and digital DOSH card linked to an instant payment app.

The app facilitates instant peer-to-peer payments via mobile numbers and QR codes. No matter which bank you're with, you can pay and be paid directly and in real-time from your Dosh digital wallet, wherever Visa is accepted.

Along with our expertise in Visa program management, our solution also includes:

  • API integration into the Dosh app
  • Real-Time Funding which is essentially an authorisation forwarding of transactions
  • Settlement process and guidance
  • Specialty card design and packaging
  • Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and appropriate Know-Your-Customer (KYC) providers
  • Digital Wallet enabling Apple and Google Pay

Results

The DOSH Visa card was launched in New Zealand in October 2022, becoming the first digital wallet provider in New Zealand. Since its launch, Dosh New Zealand has seen its acquisition of customers grow substantially week on week. Not only are they seeing new customers coming in daily to take advantage of a quick, simple sign-up and card ordering process, but they are also seeing their existing customers utilise more and more of the wallet's functionality with the best-in-class UX.

"Our partnership with Novatti has enabled Dosh to provide a safe, instant and easy-to-use digital wallet for Kiwis. We see it as a real game-changer in the New Zealand payments landscape and, more importantly, a win for everyday consumers and businesses."

Shane Marsh
Co-Founder of DOSH New Zealand
